I was concerned about this book when I saw other reviews saying the questions were too easy compared to the test. My son (applying for 5th) took a practice test from this book, the official ISEE online practice test, and of course the real test. He didn’t feel the questions in the book were too easy and said, if anything, they were slightly harder than the real test.Because the book only has practice tests, I also prepped him myself about test taking techniques.His official scores were slightly higher than the book’s estimate, although, of course, he’d had more practice by test time.I would buy this book again if I need one for my younger child.
My daughter was applying for private school and had never taken a "normal" standardized test like this. I found the book to be really helpful in learning what types of questions would be on the exam and especially on pacing. We figured out a few good strategies such as paying attention to the time and guessing when you were getting to the end of the time allotment. She ended up getting stanines of 7 to 9 and got into the school we applied to. On another note, before we got this test, she took a COGAT test and hadn't practiced timing for that test so she ended up not completing a lot of that test and got a much weaker score. For instance, her weakest score on the COGAT was quantitative reasoning but she ended up getting a 9 stanine on the ISEE. So I definitely think buying this helped with test taking strategies.
My son did both of the tests without spending half of the time and his score were both perfect. I don't know whether these are too easy or not compared with the real test. We'll wait and see the real result next couple of days.Our result just came in yesterday and the result didn't match any of the two results from this practice tests, especially the first section which we score perfect on both tests. It confirmed my impression that it's too easy and give user inaccurate information about their weakness and strength.
This book contains two "unofficial" practice tests for the ISEE.My son used this to practice pacing himself for the actual exam, since he tends to rush through things and make careless mistakes.Overall this book is useful if your child would benefit from additional exam simulation.
These tests are so easy, they are dangerous to fifth graders preparing for the ISEE. I gave my students practice tests made by several different companies, and these were by far the easiest. Kids who only got 70-80% of the questions right on other tests got all of these questions right. Could be a good starter book, just to introduce them to the format of the test, but do NOT have these be the last practice tests your child sees before going into the real thing. They will be totally freaked out.
This is (and its companion book) are the only good ones for the lower level ISEE.The Princeton and Kaplan books are a COMPLETE rip off for lower level ISEE test takers. Those two are 85% content for mid and upper level ISEE. And their lower level content is often poorly calibrated (seems like it is for older kids).

There are not that many questions to practice in this book. The quality of the questions was reasonable.
